Starting a business is complicated. When I first started designing jewelry at A&M, I just jumped right in. I didn’t worry about the business side of things, only the design side. It was fun. Really fun. Then I realized, if I wanted to keep having fun, I needed to make it a business.
As I examined Weeko Mika from a business perspective, I decided that I had two separate aesthetics. One was fun, quirky and playful while the other was geometric minimalism. Once I realized this, I immediately wanted to split Weeko Mika into it’s two perspective lines.
So, Weeko Mika became Little Mika! I’ve been developing new adorable forest critters for the Little Mika line and I wanted to give a little preview. They will all be etched and lasercut from birch wood.
I’ve always been inspired by Native American cultures, so each animals name is either a Native American name for the animal, or a nickname derived from their Native American name. Each purchase will include a card with an illustration and description of that animal’s name and Native American symbolism.
I couldn’t be more excited about Little Mika, and if all goes well, I’ll soon be writing a post introducing my minimalist line!
