I don’t have the faintest idea how to sew properly, but I might be attempting to do so in the next few weeks. Usually, my phases of inspiration are relatively fleeting, or only resurface periodically, but this cosmic phase is just not going away. I remember stumbling upon some DIY tutorials for making your own galaxy tee and/or shoes but for some reason, I do not recall seeing Christopher Kane’s galaxy inspired Resort 2011 collection.
Yum. I love the idea of photo-printed fabrics and the use of galaxy photos just really hits the nail on the head for me. Through my google-search tangent I discovered some other gems that follow the same idea.
First up, this Eva Franco dress as styled and modeled by the ever-creative and lovely Elsie of A Beautiful Mess. Great dress. I’m so jealy.
Then Etsy came through again, shocking! Shadow Play NYC prints all sorts of real Hubble telescope images onto fabric and turns them into skirts, dresses, bandanas, you name it.
Even with all my searching, I haven’t found the perfect galaxy dress yet. Excluding the fact that I cannot afford any of these things. However, it hasn’t stopped me from envisioning the silhouette of the dress from my dreams.
I had to sketch it. Mind you, this is my first fashion illustration and it’s not perfect. I learned everything I know from Rachel, she’s the best.
I found this website that prints high-res images onto fabric by the yard, and I don’t know that I’ll be able to stop myself from getting a quote once I choose the perfect image. I also found this Project Runway via Simplicity pattern that, with some alterations, might just do the trick. I need it!!!

Alyssa
