Last month two things happened. My coworkers and I realized that fall fashion week was coming up, and I suddenly wanted to learn how to sew. Of course, I had a Pinterest board of clothes I wanted to make waiting standby for that moment. What was I going to make whilst learning to sew? I decided on a high-low leather tee, holographic zippered pouch, a pleated maxi skirt, a Kenzo inspired tiger sweatshirt, a mesh and lace tank and the mother of all, a sequin maxi skirt. Whew.
I learned a lot. I learned that sewing sequins is dumb and I do not wish to do that to myself ever again. Although, it does make the most delicious swishing sound when you walk in a sequin maxi skirt. I learned that sewing stretchy fabric is not fun, and sewing stretchy mesh is extra not awesome. But they can be done! Totally pulled it off. Definitely not perfect, but it was fun exercising my ability to learn something new. Fused leather fabric, however? Best thing ever. After doing five fashion DIYs for Whimseybox, I’m a liiiiiiittle sick of sewing. I’m sure I’ll be back though… as long as there’s still a bunch of projects waiting for me on that Pinterest board!
